Life Coaching Disclaimer and Code of Ethics

Introduction

As a dedicated professional in the field of life coaching, I am committed to upholding the highest standards of ethics and integrity, following the guidelines outlined in this Life Coaching Disclaimer and Code of Ethics. This document serves to clarify the scope of my coaching services, establish a formal coaching agreement, outline my commitment to integrity, address potential conflicts of interest, and emphasize the importance of confidentiality in our coaching relationship.

Scope of Coaching

I will clearly communicate to all clients the differences between life coaching and therapy to ensure they understand that life coaching is not a substitute for professional therapy, counseling, or mental health care.
I will define the limits of coaching, acknowledging that as a life coach, I am not trained to diagnose or treat any form of mental illness.
The roles of both the life coach and the client within the coaching relationship will be clearly communicated to ensure a mutual understanding of each party's responsibilities.

Coaching Agreement

Prior to the commencement of any coaching sessions, a coaching agreement will be signed by all parties involved. This agreement will cover the scope of coaching, financial arrangements, expectations for both the coach and the client, and the termination policy.
Coaching services to clients under the age of 18 will only be provided with the written consent of a parent or guardian.

Integrity

I commit to being transparent and honest about my qualifications, including my career experience, expertise, training, and certifications.
I will maintain an equitable coach/client relationship, ensuring respect and integrity regardless of compensation.
I pledge not to make any claims regarding results or outcomes that cannot be demonstrably guaranteed or that I am unable to ensure.

Conflict of Interest

I will remain vigilant of my personal biases and any potential conflicts of interest, disclosing any such issues to my clients. Should these biases or conflicts prevent me from providing appropriate coaching services, I will terminate the coaching relationship.
Transparency and honesty in addressing any conflicts of interest are paramount to maintaining the integrity of the coaching relationship.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is the cornerstone of a trusting and effective coaching relationship. When you share your thoughts, challenges, goals, and personal experiences with me, you deserve to know that everything discussed remains between us. I take this responsibility seriously because true growth requires vulnerability — and vulnerability requires safety.
All information shared during our coaching sessions — whether verbal, written, or communicated through any other medium — will be kept strictly confidential. I will not disclose any details about our work together to third parties without your explicit written consent.
Any notes, records, or session materials I maintain will be stored securely and handled with the utmost care. Your privacy is not just a policy — it is a promise I make to every client I work with.
The only exceptions to this confidentiality commitment would arise if there is a legal obligation to disclose information — such as situations involving imminent risk of harm to yourself or others — or if disclosure is required by law. In such rare circumstances, I will make every effort to discuss the situation with you first.
I want you to feel completely at ease when you step into our coaching space. This is your space to be open, honest, and authentically yourself — without fear of judgment or exposure. Respecting your confidentiality is how I honor the trust you place in me, and it is a commitment I will never take lightly.
